Who is Mrs. Perkey!
As I stated on the Home page, I have been working in public education for over 13 years. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University (Go Chips!) with a major in Mathematics and two minors, one in Language Arts and one in Middle Level Education. What is a minor in Middle Level Education, you ask? Well, this particular minor provided me with many opportunities to work closely with middle school students and staff while learning specifically about students in the middle grades. In my minor program I spent a lot of time studying and analyzing how middle school students grow and develop and how this affects their learning. This knowledge allowed me to find creative and stimulating lessons and assessments to use with middle school students.
After graduating from CMU, I began my teaching profession at Sarah Banks Middle School in Walled Lake Consolidated School District. Not only did I start my career there, but I also student taught there! At the start of the 2005-2006 school year I began working as a Permanent Building Substitute Teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed this position as it gave me a chance to work with students in the middle grades at all levels in every subject! While working in this position I was able to focus on my Master's program. I graduated in May 2012 with a Master's Degree in Library Science from Wayne State University.
On a more personal note, I have been married to my wonderful husband since October 2010! We enjoy spending time together doing many outside activities, such as golfing, camping, and hiking. My husband and I also enjoy spending time with our family, including our 11 nieces and nephews, and especially our friends, who are very much our family. Other than spending time with my husband and son, I do enjoy reading, crocheting and scrolling around on Pinterest.

This is a picture of our son Owen! He was born in March 2015 and has been a blessing everyday! You may on occasion hear him in the background as he loves to make sure everyone knows he is around!
